Resources: Expressions

Expressions are such a key element in the way visual artists communicate information that it’s worth checking out a few of these resources and maybe discover techniques or find references to help convey a wide variety in our work.

Terry Moore, creator of Strangers in Paradise, recently self-published a small book called “How to Draw Expressions” that I found very helpful. He uses stick figures and smileys to simplify the art, making the expressions extremely clear. He also includes a short (hilarious) comic that he deconstructs panel-by-panel to show how expressions enhance storytelling. http://www.strangersinparadise.com/store.html (under “related books”, top row center)

Neat! Thanks for the recommendation, Bill! :D I got to see Terry Moore speak at Comic-con and his presentation on expressions was pretty amazing.
